Michelle Fairley as Catelyn Stark on Game of ThronesHBO/Facebook

Michelle Fairley, who played Catelyn Stark on "Game of Thrones," is returning to premium cable — but not as Lady Stoneheart, and not on HBO. The actress has joined the cast of Starz's upcoming show "The White Princess" — a sequel series to the 2013 miniseries "The White Queen."

"The White Princess" is based on Philippa Gregory's bestselling novel of the same name. Fairley will play Margaret Beaufort — mother of King Henry VII, who clashes with her new daughter-in-law Princess "Lizzie" Elizabeth (newcomer Jodie Comer) of York. The eight-episode series will tell the story of England's War of the Roses from the vantage point of its female figures and will cover the conclusion of the war and the rise of the House of Tudor via the marriage of Princess Elizabeth to King Henry Tudor, reports TV.com.

An official announcement for the show by Starz reads: "As Margaret's influence over her son begins to wane and Lizzie's star rises, Margaret begins to unravel as the sins of the past and present weigh heavily on her conscience and her relations with Henry are at risk of potentially imploding."

Production on the drama will begin in England later this year. "The White Princess" is expected to premiere in 2017.

After her deparure from "Game of Thrones," Fairley has appeared in brief roles on shows like "Suits," "Resurrection," "24: Live Another Day" and "The Lizzie Borden Chronicles."
