Akshay Kumar starrer "Gabbar Is Back" has registered a good opening day income, but the box office collection dropped on the second day by 15-20%.
After earning ₹13 crore on the first day, the masala entertainer raked in ₹11.35 crore on Saturday. The two day domestic box office collection of "Gabbar Is Back" now stands at ₹24.40 crore.
"#GabbarIsBack Fri 13.05 cr, Sat 11.35 cr. Total: ₹ 24.40 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The second day box office collection of "Gabbar Is Back" was expected to be low as the film was released on a public holiday, i.e. on Labour Day.
Nevertheless, the film holds the record of highest two-day total for the films released in 2015.
The film is now set for a record opening weekend box office collection. The first three day total is expected to cross ₹35 crore mark in India.
Meanwhile, trade analysts are expecting "Gabbar Is Back" to end the dry spell at the box office. This year, only Akshay's "Baby" and Varun Dhawan's "Badlapur" has scored well at the domestic box office.
Trade experts are confident that "Gabbar Is Back" will bring back the good time at the ticket window.
"Akshay Kumar films are always awaited with bated breath, despite him doing four to five a year, and that too for so many years. On the other hand, other stars don't even dare to tread the same path. Every release of his does bring expectations from trade and public alike. Gabbar Is Back is no exception," trade analyst Girish Johar told Bollywood Hungama.
"Gabbar Is Back is looking good to me. It's been a while since a hardcore commercial film has released and this is the perfect time for it. The trailer has been appreciated and the song 'Teri Meri Kahani' is a chartbuster already. I think the film will bring back the memories of Rowdy Rathore," Harsh Jain, film distributor and exhibitor, told the trade website.
"Gabbar Is Back" is directed by Krish, while produced under Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali production banner.
The film features Akshay along with Shruti Hassan, Sunil Grover and Suman Talwar in pivotal roles, while Kareena Kapoor Khan has done a cameo.
