Akshay Kumar's "Gabbar Is Back" has brought some relief to the box office with its opening day box office collection. The masala entertainer, which opened to mixed reviews, has registered highest opening day income of 2015 at the domestic box office.
"Gabbar Is Back" has shattered the opening day records of Bollywood films "Baby" and "Roy" to become the highest opener of 2015. But the film failed to break the record of Hollywood film "Fast & Furious 7", which holds the record of highest opening day box office income.
"#GabbarIsBack Fri ₹ 13.05 cr. India biz. HIGHEST OPENER of 2015 so far [Hindi films]," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Till now, the highest opener record of 2015 was held by Ranbir Kapoor's "Roy", which has now been shattered by "Gabbar Is Back".
The film also managed to break the opening day record of Hollywood superhero movie "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" (₹10.98 crore), but failed to beat "Fast & Furious 7" record in India.
Talking about the box office performance, Akshay has a strong hold at mass belt across the country, especially in north circuits and thus the film performed well in areas like Rajasthan, CP-Berar and CI among others.
But opening day box office collection from Maharashtra was highest due to Maharashtra Day holiday in the state. And since it is the solo release, the film is expected to rule the box office over the weekend.
Meanwhile, "Gabbar Is Back" has scored the third highest opening day total for Akshay's film.
"Rowdy Rathore", which is Akshay's highest grosser, still holds the record of his biggest opener with 15 crore box office income.
