It is known that Akshay Kumar's two releases of this year, "Baby" and "Gabbar Is Back", are the only two films that have fared more than ₹80 crore at the box office.
The first two slots at the domestic box office net income list of 2015 has been taken by Akshay's films. So, far "Baby" has been on the top since its release in January, but looks like "Gabbar Is Back" is all set to take its claim.
"Gabbar Is Back", which was released on 1 May, is running in its third week at the box office, the film has so far accumulated more than ₹80 crore net income from the Indian market.
Although, the collections have declined after the release of new films like "Piku", Akshay starrer continues to draw audiences towards it. Trade analysts are still expecting that "Gabbar Is Back" will become the highest grosser of 2015 after beating "Baby" life-time box-office collection.
"#GabbarIsBack is poised to be the HIGHEST Nett BO Hindi film of the year, so far - ahead of #Baby - as mentioned muccchhh earlier," trade analyst Girish Johar tweeted.
"So highest grossing 'films', so far, #FastFurious7 #Baby, #GabbarIsBack #AvengersAgeOfUltron .... #GabbarIsBack will eventually settle at #2," Johar added.
With "Bombay Velvet" having a disastrous run at the box office, the occupancy of "Gabbar Is Back" has increased in its third week. With a decent box office hold in its third week, "Gabbar Is Back" is likely to beat the target of "Baby" in India.
Nevertheless, the first two spot at the domestic box office, until now, has been taken by Akshay's films and look like that it will retain the positions until the release of Salman Khan's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan".
