Akshay Kumar's one-week-old movie, "Gabbar is Back", has continued its run at the ticket counters in the second week. Its domestic collection has reached ₹66.86 crore on its second Saturday.
Having collected ₹59.86 crore in the domestic market in its opening week, "Gabbar is Back" showed considerable amount of dip in its business on its second Friday. When compared to its opening day collection, the movie witnessed over 75% drop in its business on its eighth day in theatres.
The biggest reason for the decline in its collection was that "Gabbar is Back" lost a huge chunk of its screen-count to new releases, "Piku" and "Kuch Kuch Locha Hai", which became first choice for the movie-goers across India. Having become a second option, the Akshay Kumar starrer collected ₹2.80 crore at the Indian box office on its second Friday, taking its eight-day total to ₹62.66 crore net.
With "Piku" getting extremely positive opinion from critics as well as viewers, trade analysts in B-Town predict that the business of "Gabbar is Back" might further slide down on its second Saturday. But to everyone's surprise, the movie witnessed 50% growth in its collection on the same day.
"Gabbar Is Back" has collected ₹4.20 crore at the Indian box office on its second Saturday. The nine-day domestic total collection of the film stands at ₹66.86 crore net. As per early trends, the film is expected to have even better collections on Sunday and easily surpass the mark of ₹70 crore in the second weekend.
Reports suggest that Kumar Mangat has acquired all-India theatrical rights for "Gabbar Is Back" for a whopping price of ₹42 crore. If we are to go by these reports, the movie has already returned the investments with a good amount of profit share to the distributor. The film would earn 100% of profit to Mangat in the coming days.
