Consumer electronics giant LG announced on Thursday that the new G Flex 2 will hit stores next week.
LG has confirmed that G Flex 2 will first hit stores in its home market South Korea on 30 January for KR Won 800,000 (around $737/€635/₹45,482). However, details regarding the global release of the device are still under wraps.
Beside the G Flex 2 launch, the South Korean company also took note of ongoing rumours of Samsung ditching Snapdragon 810 SoC (System on Chip) in the soon-to-be released Galaxy S6 due to some issues.
Bloomberg citing people with direct knowledge on Samsung's R & D (Research & Development) reported that the company faced over-heating of the chipset during the test run of Galaxy S6.
This flagship phone is touted to be a game changer for Samsung, which is trying to arrest declining profit. Therefore, to be on the safer side, Samsung will apparently use the proprietary Exynos Octa-core series processor for the Galaxy S6.
However, LG chief in a chat with reporters present at the launch reassured consumers that G Flex 2, which houses the same Qualcomm chipset, faced no problems during the tests conducted by the company.
"I am very much aware of the various concerns in the market about the (Snapdragon) 810, but the chip's performance is quite satisfactory," Reuters quoted Woo Ram-chan, LG vice president for mobile product planning, as saying.
For the uninitiated, the new G Flex 2 sports a 5.5-inch full HD curved P-OLED display and runs on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS powered by the Snapdragon 810 Octa-core SoC (System on Chip) aptly backed by 2GB DDR4 RAM, 16GB/32GB inbuilt memory and a 3000 mAh battery.
Like its predecessor, LG G Flex 2 too boasts of self-healing shell on the rear-side; one improvement is that the phone can recover scratches within 10 seconds under normal room temperature. 2013 model used to take around 3 minutes to recover.
The new LG Flex 2 houses advanced 13.0-megapixel main camera with laser auto-focus technology bas seen in the company flagship G3. And on the front, it houses 2.1-megapixel snapper on the front with gesture-shot feature where-in the user can use hand gesture to take a selfie from 1.5 meters away from the phone.
