Fans of Mass Effect game series are in for some bitter news as the future of the sci-fi franchise looks bleak, especially in the wake of negative reception for BioWare's latest creation – Mass Effect: Andromeda. Sources close to the game's developer, BioWare Montreal, have confirmed that BioWare has put the development of Mass Effect series on hold as its latest iteration has backfired with negative sales.
Meanwhile, multiple sources have confirmed Kotaku that several BioWare Montreal employees were recently moved to the EA Motive studio for further development of Stars Wars BattleFront II.
The rest of the Montreal team will lend support for a new action-adventure game named Dylan, besides offering technical support for Andromeda's multiplayer game with periodic updates and patches. The game is expected to be announced at the forthcoming EA Play press conference at E3.
Consequently, it is almost certain there will not be any future DLCs or content updates for Mass Effect: Andromeda as BioWare Montreal will have a skeletal staff to troubleshoot issues and offer patches for the game.
It may be recalled that BioWare had recently rolled out the patch 1.06 to address issues with cinematics and animation, besides improving the overall gameplay experience with some performance enhancements for the game.
Mass Effect: Andromeda hasn't witnessed the kind of success that the original Mass Effect games had in the gaming market. The majority of hard-core gamers have disliked the game for its lacklustre script and flawed animation as evident with the poor scores seen in the user review section of Metacritic for Xbox One, PC and PS4 versions of the game.
One major reason for the downfall of Mass Effect: Andromeda can be attributed to its disappointing ending wherein the game closes in a cliffhanger and does not offer a proper conclusion. With BioWare's current situation at Montreal, a sequel for Andromeda looks very unlikely.
