An incredible time-lapse animation has been published online that shows every single terrorist attack in the past 15 years.
The time-lapse map, created by freelance motion graphics designer Milan R Vuckovic, showcases the location of every single terrorist attack in which more than 20 people were killed from 1 December 2000 to the 13 November 2015.
The video, titled 15 Years of Terror, shows the various terrorist incidents across the globe, such as 9/11, the 7/7 London bombings and the recent Paris attacks, as well as the numerous attacks which have taken place across Africa, India and the Middle East.
The video ends with a message saying: In the last 15 years no terrorist organisation has achieved its final goal... lets keep it that way.
The data for the map came from the Global Terrorism database and various media outlets. As Vuckovic notes in a comment beneath the video on YouTube, the time-lapse should not be taken as 100% accurate.
Due to the large amount of data used, there are likely to be mistakes (exact chronology, location, casualties etc). This video should serve as an approximation. (Especially in the messy parts.), he writes.
Vuckovic told IBTimes UK: I decided to create this video after I heard about the Paris and Lebanon attacks and after I read two essays: How Successful Is Terrorism?(James M Lutz and Brenda J Lutz) and Why Terrorism Does Not Work (M Abrahms).
He added: We should educate potential future terrorists among us about how terrorism fails today and in the past to achieve its goals.
The video comes after the recent publication of the 2015 Global Terrorism Index by the Institute for Economics and Peace. The number of people who lost their lives due to acts of terrorism increased by 80% in 2014, with militants belonging to Boko Haram and the Islamic State responsible for most of the killings. The two terror groups claimed 51% of all global deaths, with Nigeria experiencing the largest increase in terrorist activity.
