Fox's new musical drama, Star focuses on the story of three girls: Star, her sister Simone and best friend Alexander, through their journey to achieve musical success. The Pilot episode premiered on December 14 and gave a preview of the lives the sisters go through in foster homes and Alexander's life under the shadow of her famous father. Created by Lee Daniels of Empire, the show stars Queen Latifah, Benjamin Bratt, Jude Demoreset, Brittany O'Grady and Ryan Destiny.
The pilot episode ended with a starry performance by the three-girl crew at the party hosted by Hunter Morgan (played by Chad James Buchanan), Jahil Rivera's godson and young NFL star. We also see Simone's foster father waking up in a hospital and interrogated by the police about possible enemies.
The second episode could see Simone's foster father, Otis Leecan, waking up and informing the police about Simone. Will he open up about her attempting to kill him and fleeing in his car in the first episode? Or will he stay silent with the fear of not getting into trouble with social service? Simone is headed for a big trouble as the promos already show her being admitted in the hospital for drug overdose.
A romantic relationship between Star and Hunter could be possible. After all, the two were seen flirting at the party and did you look at the way he looked at her in the pilot episode? He was "Star"-struck. But will Carlotta let her go ahead with the singing career?
Chances are Carlotta will become the official manager of the girl crew. In an interview with LA Times, Latifah shared her experience of going from being a girl like Star to becoming a mentor for them. "It's interesting to go from being a girl like Star or Alexandra or Simone to then [play] a kind of manager or producer — someone who really helps to bring those dreams to fruition. It's like having that full-circle experience to really see how hungry, how dangerous, how exciting, how fun, how talented these girls are. And how they really do need somebody to watch their back," she was quoted.
But will Rivera let his chance of reviving his career and cashing in on Star's success go to Carlotta? We don't think so. Could we see collaboration between Carlotta and Rivera? He does know the industry quite well and could help the girls.
On the other side, Alexander and Derek could start their love story. With a cute face like Derek, who wouldn't want to date him? Did you see how he flirts with Alex in the pilot episode? Wasn't it adorable?
All the questions will be answered on January 4, 2017, as the series premieres on Fox at 9 PM EST.
