Two male and two female baby deer were born at the Bronx Zoo. The rare fawns were all born to different mothers. The Père David deer is a species native to China but extinct in the wild.In 1866, French missionary Père Armand David smuggled a few remaining deer to France for protection. The species now only lives in zoos around the world.As part of the Species Survival Program, 165 fawns have been born at the Bronx Zoo since 1946.
