Williams' Felipe Massa has blamed McLaren's Kevin Magnussen for a frightening first lap accident in the German Grand Prix on Sunday at Hockenheim.
Massa, who started the race from P3, was flicked upside down in a scary crash, when Magnussen's McLaren made wheel-to-wheel contact with the Williams at the first corner. The Brazilian, however, was unharmed and got out of the car himself.
The former Ferrari driver, who was unlucky for the third time this season, was left fuming after the accident and insisted that the Dane was at fault.
"I was in front, I was doing the corner in front of him," said Massa. "If anyone needs to watch, it is the car behind. I didn't see yet the accident (on television), but normally the car behind has to brake."
"At that the corner you cannot have three cars side-by-side, and I backed off a bit to not be side-by-side with my team-mate," he added. "It is normally a guy who comes from GP2 who causes this accident."
No penalties were given by the stewards, and Magnussen recovered from the accident to finish the race on P9 behind teammate Jenson Button, after starting from fourth behind Massa.
Magnussen insisted that it was not his fault as he had no place go. He, however, apologised for the clash, which sent the Williams flying momentarily before flipping it across the pavement.
"For sure if I had another place to go I wouldn't have had contact," said Magnussen. "I didn't see the replay. It's a bit difficult to comment if you haven't seen the accident. I'm sorry about the situation, but I did my best and tried to avoid him, but I didn't really have anything to do."
"I wasn't really trying to do anything with Felipe so to have contact with him was very unfortunate," he added.
In the British Grand Prix, a couple of weeks ago, Massa was involved in another accident with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen in the opening lap. The 33-year-old has now said that he was disappointed because it led to a premature end to his race.
"It was a bit more scary watching than being inside" Massa explained. "I am fine. I didn't have any impact. "The only thing is I am so disappointed with what happened - another race where a car put me out. So I am really disappointed."
Meanwhile, hometown hope Nico Rosberg of the Mercedes stormed to yet another win, after starting from the pole position, to strengthen his grip on the world championship. Valtteri Bottas in the other Williams finished second ahead of Rosberg's teammate Lewis Hamilton.
