Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron on Saturday made some sort of a jaw-dropping comment that he wants to kidnap India cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. Fret not, the 50-year-old British politician only wants Tendulkar to train the England cricket team.
England are going through a perilous time in their current tour of India, where they are playing a five-match Test series and will thereafter play three ODIs and T20Is each. Virat Kohli's India cricket team currently lead the five-match Test series, 2-0, after the completion of three matches.
"Given the way the Test series (between the two countries) is going... we need to kidnap him (Tendulkar)... for training," Cameron gestured at Tendulkar and made the comment during the HT Leadership Summit in New Delhi.
Commenting on the current state of the England cricket team, Cameron added: "There are ups and downs... Any global team would have Joe Root in it. Alastair Cook is one of the greatest batsmen in the world today. Jimmy Anderson is one of the great bowlers."
Tendulkar, who was also present in the event, mentioned that the presence of Anil Kumble in the India dressing team has come as a major blessing for the India cricket team. "Virat Kohli's team has the right balance. The batting line is very strong and there is great balance in batting and bowling. More importantly, you have the best man in the dressing room, Anil Kumble," he said.
The Master Blaster also gave his ideas on how Test cricket can be developed further in modern times.
"Test cricket is not dying. It's about the big rivalries. There was a time when everyone wanted to beat West Indies. Then came Australia. These rivalries are dying," the 43-year-old said.
"It will be a good idea to play back-to-back Test matches on a home-and-away basis. It will make the matches more exciting. Let India host two Tests at home and then let England host India in the next two. Don't know if that ever will be possible," he added.
