Former Law Minister of Delhi Jitender Singh Tomar has confessed to procuring his fake law and graduation degrees from two different agents.
During interrogation, he told police that one Madan from Delhi had helped him get the BSc degree in 2001, while Vinod from Munger, Bihar, had helped him procure the LLB degree, Hindustan Times reports. He further revealed that his brother PS Tomar had introduced him to both Vinod and Madan.
Tomar claimed to have done his LLB from Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, Bihar, and graduation from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Uttar Pradesh.
"Tomar revealed that he approached his brother who was an advocate to help get a degree since he was unable to clear exams being poor academically. His brother then introduced him to Vinod who helped him get the degree without actually enrolling for the said course," HT sources said.
Madan runs a private school in Shakarpur area of Delhi and is also reportedly an agent.
Tomar told police that as he was poor in studies but wanted to make a career in politics, he forged his certificates and degrees.
"He said he was active in politics and wanted a career in politics for which he needed the degrees. He confessed that he made a mistake," HT sources added.
Tomar was arrested on 9 June for allegedly submitting fake degrees and certificates while filing his nomination for the Delhi Assembly polls earlier this year. He was taken into judicial custody for interrogations.
The Delhi Police has sought his custody for four more days to verify the facts related to a migration certificate obtained from Bundelkhand University, IANS reports. Metropolitan Magistrate Preeti Parewa has allowed police to question Tomar till 19 June.
