"The Vampire Diaries" stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev appeared to be in a cheerful mood as they picked up the "Best- Onscreen Chemistry" award at People's Choice Awards on Wednesday.
Contrary to reports that the former couple found it awkward to be around each other, Somerhalder and Dobrev who dated for about two years before breaking up in May 2013 seemed perfectly at ease with each other and even made fun of the split. The 35-year-old heartthrob said that the characters Elena and Damon of the series initially hated each other but went to become a pair and added that Dobrev and he were also dating in real life. At this his co-star interjected "And then we broke up in real life," before joking, "It's a good thing it's not awkward!" The duo continues to be a pair on the fantasy series.
"It's good that we have chemistry" the duo said, after which Somerhalder was seen planting a kiss on Dobrev's cheeks creating fan frenzy.
Somerhalder and Dobrev's prepping chemistry and witty banter was an entertaining scene at the awards night.
While the 24-year-presented a pretty sight in a Jenny Packham pencil dress and Olympia strappy stilettos, her co-star Somerhalder looked his dashing best.
Hosted by Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs of "Two Broke Girls", the 40th Annual People Choice awards night saw Sandra Bullock as the big winner, as she took away four awards including that of Favourite Movie Actress, while "Iron Man 3" scored the next big.
