American car maker Ford is launching its muscle car, the Mustang, in India on July 12. The Sixth generation of the iconic pony car was introduced in India in an event ahead of the Auto Expo 2016 in February, when the company had divulged a lot of information about the car.
In April, some units of the Mustang were spotted at the stockyard of the Gujarat facility. The specifications of the India version have been confirmed to include the flagship 5.0-litre Ti-VCT V8 engine that generates 420bhp and 515Nm of torque, mated to mated to six-speed automatic transmission. Estimated prices for the Mustang hover around Rs. 50 lakh.
This is the first time Ford has made right-hand-drive versions of the car for markets like the U.K. and India. The new version also features an independent rear suspension (IRS) system. The Mustang is the only model in Ford's line-up that does not use the blue oval company logo. It instead features a dedicated logo of a horse that denotes compact, quick, agile and sleek looks and performance, according to the company. The Mustang belongs to the pony car class of the American automobile brand, which have sports car-like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks.
The vehicle will be brought to India as completely built unit (CBU ). It is expected to go up against the Audi TT, BMW Z4 and the soon-to-be-launched Nissan GT-R.
