This year will witness some interesting launches in the automobile sector.
Ford will be under the spotlight with its fleet of new cars that includes the iconic pony car, the Ford Mustang. The legendary muscle car will make its debut in the Indian market more than five decades after the brand was launched in the United States. Car enthusiasts in India have long craved for powerful muscle cars and the news is sure to make them very happy.
Several car brands like BMW, Mercedes Benz, Porsche and others have already forayed into the Indian market with numerous sports and luxury cars. Ford Mustang has a dedicated fan following in and around the country. The company has a stable presence in India with several models meeting the varying demand of its customers. But the company's enticing Mustang was left out of the league for Indian buyers.
Interested buyers have imported the cars by paying hefty duties. However, direct sales of the new Ford Mustang will not only put down the price by a huge margin, but also match the Indian requirements. According to a report by Autocar India, Ford CEO Mark Fields has confirmed the arrival of the Mustang to select dealers in India during the inauguration of Sanand plant in Ahmedabad, Indian Autos Blog reported.
The Ford Mustang will also be built according to the Indian standards, with right-hand-drive (RHD) configuration. The sixth-generation of the pony car will be available in three options:
- The powerful 5.0 liter V8 with 420 bhp and 530Nm torque.
- 3.7 liter V6 powered engine pushing 300 horses down the pipes with 366Nm.
- All-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with 305bhp and 406Nm.
The new technology used in the EcoBoost engine will help attain great fuel efficiency.
Other specifications and features of the 2015 Ford Mustang include:
- Push button engine starter
- Microsoft SYNC integration
- Intelligent Access
- MyKey Keyless start
- Blind spot warning
- SYNC AppLink to wirelessly control the infotainment system using mobile app.
Ford will effectively price its Mustang, suitable for Indian consumers. If the rumours are right, the 2015 model will be priced under Rs 50 lakh to pull in some enthusiasts.
"While, a lot of details are not yet clear, the general perception is the cars will start selling at a little below the Rs 50-lakh mark," a person familiar with the matter said, according to Live Mint. "It is clear that India will get sizeable chunk of the RHD models."
For its competition, the Mustang will go head-to-head with BMW 5 series and Audi A6.
Separately, Ford is also expected to launch other models this year, including Figo Aspire compact sedan, new Figo hatchback and the new Endeavour SUV.
