While Ford India is all set to launch the updated and all new Endeavour SUV on 20 January (Wednesday), the next product widely rumoured to be launched is the iconic Mustang muscle car. It was earlier being said that the car would be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 starting on 3 February, but the latest development seems to have advanced the launch date of the Mustang.
A report in Overdrive claims that Ford India has decided to launch the Mustang on 28 January. The Mustang belongs to the pony car class of American automobile brand with sports-car like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks. The Mustang is the only model in Ford's line up that does not use the company logo. The car features dedicated logo of a horse that denotes compact, quick, agile and sleek according to the company.
The first generation Mustang was launched in 1964 and the car is currently in its sixth generation, unveiled in December 2013. Apart from the matured design, the sixth generation features a new independent rear suspension (IRS) system. The new Mustang is also the first version that comes with factory designed right-hand-drive export model to be sold in overseas market.
Ford India is expected to launch the Mustang in three engine options: the lower capacity 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine developing 305bhp, the 3.7 V6 developing 300bhp, and the popular 5.0-litre V8 engine that generates 420bhp. All the three engines will be available with a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. The pricing is expected to be in and around Rs 50 lakh.
