Ford testing its over 4-metre sedan in India comes as a surprise as the model is unlikely to find a market here. Snapped by Team-BHP forum member Enigmatic in Gujarat's Gandhinagar, the full-size Figo was seen undergoing testing along with Figo hatchback and sub-4 metre sedan. While it is almost certain that Ford will be launching only its sub-4 meter sedan in the domestic market, a few reports indicate that the full-size Figo could be for exports to markets like Algeria, Romania, Morocco and South Africa.

Ford is expected to launch its Figo hatchback and Figo sedan in India by mid- 2015 and September respectively. Known as Ford Ka and Ka+ in Brazil, the engine line-up of the upcoming small car and sedan is likely to include 1.2 litre petrol motor and 1.5 litre TDCi diesel engines, which can generate a power of 89bhp and a peak torque of 204Nm. Rumour has it that the Ford hatchback could also get 1.1 litre diesel motor.

In Brazil, Ford Ka gets power from naturally-aspirated 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, which can churn out a power of 85bhp and peak torque of 10.7kgm. The engine comes mated to five-speed manual gearbox and would be capable of running on gasoline and ethanol.

Both Figo hatchback and sedan will be manufactured at the company's new plant in Sanand, Gujarat. When launched, the new Figo hatchback will compete with Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and Tata Bolt, while the sedan's rivals will be Tata Zest, Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Xcent.
