India's favourite compact SUV Ford EcoSport is set to undergo a dramatic makeover in Europe, emerging reports suggest.
A recent report by AutoMotive News Europe reveals that Ford EcoSport, which suffered from poor sales in Europe, is now ready to welcome the facelift model of the same to give it a new lease of life. Typically, mid-lift facelift is limited to styling and cosmetic changes of the vehicle and Ford will also be looking at something like that.
Going by the latest report, in the facelift avatar of EcoSport, the SUV is likely to have revised interiors along with changes to the suspension of the car. Amongst these, the most intriguing part is that the facelift avatar EcoSport SUV will be doing away with the spare wheel mounted on its tailgate.
However, a Ford spokesman told the publication that the customers can also have the spare wheel at no additional cost. The updated Ecopsort is expected to hit the market by May this year. Mechanically the SUV is likely to remain the same. The new model will also get power from the same 1.5L petrol, 1.5L diesel and the 1.0L EcoBoost engines.
Ford EcoSport is also expected to get a facelift in the Indian market. However, it is not sure if the same vehicle in question will make it to the Indian market. Keeping in mind the EcoSport sales in India and Indian's predilection for rugged look, Ford EcoSport is likely to get spare wheel in its facelift version in the country.
Currently, the 1.5L petrol engine gives 112PS power and 140Nm torque and the revolutionary EcoBoost. EcoSport engine churns out a power of 125PS and 170Nm torque, with a mileage of 18.9kmpl. The diesel variant of EcoSport is the most fuel efficient among all models, delivering a mileage of 22.7kmpl.
