Force Motors on Friday launched its first Extreme Offroader Vehicle (EOV) Gurkha at the International Bus and Utility Show 2013, Greater Noida.
The Gurkha, which is titled as the Extreme Offroader Vehicle (EOV), has been launched for a price starting at ₹6.25 lakh. The Pune based Force Motors has introduced the new Trax Gurkha 4x4 in three variants which are powered by 2.6 liter Mercedes OM 616 engine. The engine is tested to generate 82 Ps at 3200 rpm and a torque of 230 Nm at 1800-2000 rpm.
"We are entering a very niche segment with this vehicle. The market is about 8,000-10,000 units a year and our target is to sell about 1,000 units in the first year," Force Motors Managing Director Prasan Firodia told Press Trust of India.
The company is looking at the overall expansion of their network in India in the coming years and has invested over ₹500 crore on their new product Gurkha alone. Force Motors is also planning to introduce their next vehicle in 2014, which is licensed from Mercedes.
"By the first quarter of 2014, we will be launching a nine-seater multi-purpose vehicle, which has been licensed from Mercedes," Firodia told PTI.
The Gurkha SUV packs features like Chrome finished stainless steel intake snorkel, factory fitted air conditioner and power steering and new grille and bumper. The Force Motors Gurkha soft top 4x2 model is available for a price of ₹6.25 lakh, the soft top 4x4 is priced at ₹8.35 lakh and the top model Force Motors Gurkha hardtop 4x2 is sold for a price of ₹8.50 lakh.
The company also said, "In the next few months we will be bringing three-four variants of the Force 1, which till now is a single offering."
