The 27th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has revealed that the second season of popular anime series "Food Wars" titled "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Second Plate" will premiere on July 2 in Japan.
The official website of the anime has revealed latest picture from the new season. Main cast from Season 1 will reprise their roles in the upcoming season. So far, the cast includes Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as SÅma Yukihira, Risa Taneda as Erina Nakiri, Minami Takahashi as Megumi Tadokoro, Junichi Suwabe as Akira Hayama, Nobuhiko Okamoto as RyÅ Kurokiba, Natsuki Hanae as Takumi Aldini, Saori ÅŒnishi as Hisako Arato, Chinatsu Akasaki as Alice Nakiri, Hiroki Yasumoto as Subaru Mimasaka.
According to Anime News Network, "Food Wars" Season 2 is being directed by Yoshitomo Yonetani of "Betterman" fame based on a script written by Shogo Yasukawa. Tomoyuki Shitaya is developing the characters while Tatsuya Katou will be composing the soundtrack. The opening and ending theme songs will be performed by SCREEN mode and nano.RIPE, respectively.
As reported by the website, the original anime DVD will be bundled with 19th volume of the manga on July 4. The DVD will feature a 25-minute original story of Soma and his friends who are on a short summer vacation before the Autumn Elections will be conducted.
Both the seasons of the anime are adapted from YÅ«to Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma" manga. The first season ran for 24 episodes from May to September, 2015. The series was streamed by Crunchyroll in Japan and by Sentai Filmworks in North America.
"Food Wars" tells the story of Soma, a boy with big ambitions who assists his father at his family's restaurant. Soma's father is a culinary expert and hosts cooking battles often. In the later part of the series, Soma is enrolled in an elite culinary school by his father. The school is very strict and only about 10 percent of the students graduate from their annually. Now, Soma has to go through all the challenges and make it through the school.
