Tiger Shroff's "A Flying Jatt," which opened at a slow pace, went on to collect a decent amount at the Indian box office on its first day.
The film witnessed only 25 percent occupancy in the morning shows, although it gradually picked up in the evening. Despite the hype and promotions, the film failed to draw the audience to theatres, at least on its opening day. Also, the film was released in 2,500-2,600 screens, which was more than the screen count of Akshay Kumar's "Rustom" (2,317), and yet it didn't collect a good sum.
"A Flying Jatt" collected Rs.7.10 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: "#AFlyingJatt Thu [Janmashtami] â'¹ 7.10 cr. India biz." With this, Remo D'Souza's film has failed to become the biggest opener for Tiger. The actor's previous film, "Baaghi," did a business of Rs.11.94 crore on its opening day.
The Tiger and Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer was expected to open to packed houses since it was released on the Janmashtami holiday. However, despite the holiday, it didn't fetch good money probably because people opted to focus more on religious activities on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami rather than going to theatres.
However, since no big tickets are getting released this week, "A Flying Jatt" is expected to enjoy a good run over the weekend. Also, since the film received negative reviews from the audience and critics alike, it has to heavily depend on word-of-mouth publicity.
"A Flying Jatt" was expected to shatter a few opening day box office records, but it failed to make it to the list of top 10 Bollywood openers of the year, which are listed below. The numbers may vary from the actual figures, as they are based on various reports.
