Search engine giant Google has launched a new shopping service in India that will help users get latest deals on products of their choice, compare price, recent price drops and several value-added features to enhance the online shopping experience.
"At Google, our mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful to everyone. That's why today we are bringing a new and exciting shopping search experience to India. This is a personalised and immersive experience that will help you easily filter through offers, review prices from multiple retailers and find that right product," Surojit Chatterjee, Vice President - Product Management, Google Shopping, said in a statement.
Google Shopping is a made-to-browse e-commerce platform for consumers to search across multiple product categories and find products from thousands of retailers. To make the shopping experience simpler and user-friendly, Google has added dedicated sections such as price drops, top deals, and a collection of the most popular products on Google.
There are separate browse departments dedicated to cell phones, speakers, headphones and headsets, men's clothing, women's clothing, books, watches, home decor, personal care, appliances and several more.
Another notable aspect of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered Google Shopping is that it is integrated with intuitive Google Lens. With this feature, consumers can find products -- such as clothes, furniture, and home decor - just by using their phone camera. Simply point the camera at the product and Google will do the rest in finding the appropriate listing with price comparisons.
As far as the retailers are concerned, they can register their website with Google via Merchant Center. They can also make use of Merchant Center to upload product details so they can appear across Google, without paying for ad campaigns. Besides English, Merchant Center will also offer support Hindi.
The company promises the Google Shopping experience will get richer with usage over time and best recommendations. Going by the initial impression of the webpage, Google Shopping has the potential to drive traffic away from established players such as Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal, among others.
