The first-look of Sonam Kapoor in Ram Madhvani's "Neerja" is finally out.
"Neerja" is a biopic on the brave air-hostess, Neerja Bhanot, who lost her life saving the lives of passengers on-board the ill-fated Pan Am Flight 73, which was hijacked by terrorists on 5 September 1986.
Neerja (22) became the youngest person to receive Ashok Chakra, India's highest civilian award for bravery.
Sonam, who plays the titular role in the film, took to Instagram to share the first picture of her look in "Neerja". In the picture, Sonam is seen sporting chopped hair while dressed as air hostess.
"Hello everyone! This is me as Neerja in our tribute to Neerja Bhanot. This is my most special film..Thank you @foxstarhindi @blinglive," Sonam posted.
Speaking about her character, the "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" actress told Koimoi: "There are times in an actor's career when a very special role in a special motion picture comes your way. The biopic of Neerja Bhanot is one such. I feel honoured and humbled to have the opportunity to essay the role of India's youngest Ashoka Chakra awardee."
Produced by Fox Star Studios and Bling Unplugged, "Neerja" has been written by Saiwyn Quadras, who has also penned "Mary Kom". The film will also feature Shabana Azmi in an important role.
"Making Neerja is an emotional journey for all of us. I couldn't have asked for a better team than Fox Star, Bling Unplugged and Equinox. And Sonam is Neerja," added director Ram.
