At least 10 people, including two women, were killed and 13 injured when a fire broke out in a hotel in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh city early on Friday morning.
"Ten persons were killed and 13 injured in the blaze," Superintendent of Police (SP) Balikaran Yadav said, PTI reports.
The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, from where, seven critically injured were shifted to a hospital in Allahabad district.
The fire has been contained and the rescue operation is underway.
The incident took place at around 4:30 am in Goyal Hotel in Pratapgarh's Babaganj area. The preliminary investigation reveals that a short circuit in the hotel resulted into the massive fire.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh for the next of the kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured ones, according to Hindustan Times.
Another fire in Moradabad
Another fire broke out in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad district. Fire engulfed two shops near a railway station. The fire tenders are trying to bring the fire under control.
