Microsoft is preparing for the upcoming launch of Windows 10 this summer and the software giant wants its users to be ready for the upgrade. To facilitate the same, Microsoft has just released a detailed presentation on the minimum hardware requirements for both PC and mobile phones.
With all the hype around Windows 10's arrival, it is equally important consumers validate their device's compatibility with the upcoming software, especially after Microsoft is letting all Windows users to upgrade for free.
Microsoft revealed the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 10 during its WinHEC event in Shenzen, China, confirming everything from screen size, type of processors and other details. Below are the minimum requirements listed separately for mobiles and PCs. (Via Microsoft Online PowerPoint)
Windows 10 for Mobile
Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 will run on devices that have 3 to 7.99 inches diagonally- measuring display. Under the hood, the smartphone must have at least 512MB RAM and at least 4GB storage. The RAM size will vary depending on the device's screen resolution.
- 800 x 480 pixels require at least 512MB RAM
- 960 x 540 to 1366 x 768 pixels require at least 1GB RAM
- 1440 x 900 to 1920 x 1200 pixels require at least 2GB RAM
- 2048 x 1152 to 2560 x 1660 require at least 3GB RAM
- 2560 x 2048 or higher require at least 4GB RAM
Microsoft also noted that non-touch screen devices can also run Windows 10 but on touch-screen phones, there must be at least 2-finger multi-touch function, which is a standard in almost all phones. Other standard hardware requirements include cellular radios, speakers, earpieces, headset jacks, Wi-Fi, vibration, power, and volume buttons, which is by default added in all budget phones.
Windows 10 for PCs (Laptops, Notebooks, Desktops and Tablets)
Microsoft Windows 10 will work on computers featuring at least 1GB RAM and 16GB storage for the 32-bit Windows software or require at least 2GB RAM and 20GB ROM if customers wish to run Windows 10 64-bit. The minimum display screen size for all PCs, including tablets, is 7-inches. But usually, all laptops and computers boast of higher screen sizes. All devices must support Direct X 9 or higher to make room for Windows 10.
Microsoft will launch its Windows 10 software in 190 countries with 111 language support this summer. The exact release date has not been confirmed. The new desktop and mobile OS is expected to bring a series of improvements and said to be the most advanced OS ever. The latest revelation of Windows 10 being free to all Windows users, including those running unlicensed versions has grabbed a lot of attention, making it one of the most anticipated OS ever.
