The FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 starts off in Russia on Saturday, June 17, and eight strong football nation ply their trade in the competition. The tournament will give a blueprint of Russia's preparations for the World Cup 2018.
From Cristiano Ronaldo to Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez to Leroy Sane, some of the most-experienced and highly-rated footballers take to the field as they look ahead to the international competition as a warm-up sort of a tournament before the gruelling 2017-18 club football season, starting August.
Neither Brazil, the most successful side in the competition, nor two-time champions France are competing.
The only team participating this year to have won the Confederation Cup in the past is Mexico.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin, will reportedly be attending the first match of the Confederations Cup 2017 between hosts Russia and New Zealand, on Saturday.
