In a bid to change the brand image from slow selling car maker in country, Fiat India has launched Abarth high performance brand in India. The first car from Abarth is the 595 Competizione and the second car is the Abarth Punto with the rumored launch date of 10 October. In addition to these new launches, Fiat India also started a new brand campaign christened as 'Crafted for Car Lovers'. The video also teases the upcoming Abarth Punto.
The TV commercial shows the entire line-up of Fiat India that includes, the Punto Evo, Linea, Avventura, and the recently launched 595 Competizione.
Unlike the 595 Competizione, which is a halo car for the Abarth brand with the price tag of Rs 29.85 lakh, ex-Delhi, the Abarth Punto is expected to make an positive impact on the sales of the Fiat India. The Italian manufacturer managed to sell just 642 units combined all cars in August 2015.
The manufacturer's website also added a new picture of Abarth Punto with the caption 'India's hottest hatch coming soon at 145bhp'. When launched, the car will beat the new Ford Figo with 1.5-litre engine developing 112bhp in the race.
The information leaked on 28 September (Tuesday) confirms the vehicle will feature 1.4-litre T-JET turbocharged petrol engine that dishes out 145bhp power at 6,000rpm and 200Nm torque at 1,750rpm. The engine with fuel efficiency of 16.3kmpl can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in eight seconds and will come coupled to a five-speed gearbox.
On the exterior, the Abarth Punto will be differentiated from the regular model with contrasting ORVM and 'T-Jet' badge on the bootlid. The Abarth Punto will get sporty body decals on the bottom of both sides and on the bonnet. It will come with the Scorpion logo exclusive for Abarth high performance models.
The interior will be spruced up with fabric upholstery with contrast stitching in red and yellow and sportier steel pedals. The ride height of the car will be 20mm lower than usual and the vehicle packs dual airbags and ABS as standard features.
The dealers of Fiat have already started accepting bookings for the Abarth Punto against a down payment of Rs 50,000.
