Hollywood movie "Fast & Furious 7" has achieved a rare feat at the Indian box office. The film has earned ₹100 crore in the country and has joined the ₹100 crore club, which includes stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan.
It was expected that "Fast & Furious 7" would reach the ₹100 crore mark easily, but it is the duration it took to earn the amount has surprised the industry. The movie, which was released in 2,800 screens in India in multiple languages, has made ₹100 crore in just a week.
Now, Vin Diesel and late Paul Walker have joined the list of Bollywood's big stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Ranbir Kapoor and Hrithik Roshna, whose films have made ₹100 crore in a week or less than seven days.
Announcing the news about its business, Sarabjit Singh - general manager, Universal Pictures India - said, "'Fast & Furious 7' fastest ₹100 crore box office collection was due to the fact that it was the widest release in over 2,800 screens in India. There's a vast potential for Hollywood movies in the regions beyond the metros and mini-metros in India."
The movie had given a hint of becoming a fastest century grosser in India with its performance in the opening weekend. It had collected ₹70 crore here in its first weekend. Many had predicted that the business might slow down post the first weekend, but "Fast and Furious 7" has retained the good momentum and continued its good run in theatres. As a result, it has made record-breaking business.
Apart from the brand value of the franchise, it is the emotional moment of seeing late Paul Walker for the final time that is pulling audience to the theatres. Moreover, no big star Bollywood star's movie released in recent times, and this worked in favour of the Hollywood film.
