Upcoming open-world FPS title Far Cry 4 from developer Ubisoft Montreal is reportedly full of female characters. The fourth edition of Far Cry franchise is set in the Himalayan location in the region of Kyrat, featuring new characters and storyline.
Alex Hutchinson, director of Far Cry 4, said in an interview with Outside Xbox that the game will give prominence to women, with two of the four antagonists being female characters, while many of the rebels fighting with the players will also be women, including the leader of a rebel faction.
Hutchinson said that the company has "tried very hard to make sure of the four main antagonists, half of them are women, which is cool. On your side, one of the main leaders of the rebel faction is a woman, half the rebels that fight with you are women. It's packed to the gills with women. They're everywhere, just like life".
Ubisoft was close to having a playable female character in Far Cry 4's co-op mode but it was later given up due to "workload issue" affecting the company. This revelation was made during E3 2014, where he also added that the company had no female actor lined up and there was no female animations available from the development team.
Ubisoft had invited controversy when one of its studios said that developing a playable female character in Assassin's Creed Unity would have added to the heavy work.
Hutchinson also put a lid to rumors suggesting that Far Cry 4's antagonist Pagan Min was in fact the game's main character. Nevertheless, the antagonist and protagonist are not total strangers and have known each other, he teased.
"We didn't want a villain who's just shaking his fist at you and threatening to kill you and murder your family, and the inevitability of you shotgunning him in the face. And neither did we want someone who didn't know you at all. We wanted you to actually sort of have a secret history in this country."
The game will feature Ajay Ghale as the playable character who returns to Kyrat to scatter the ashes of his mother but gets entangled in the civil war of the region, where he directly comes into conflict with local tyrant Pagan Min.
Elephants can be turned into suicide bombers
Hutchinson also revealed that players will be able to turn elephants in Far Cry 4 into suicide bombers. They will be able to stick explosives on any surface following a C4 upgrade.
The crafting system that was present in Far Cry 3 will return to the new game too. Players will also be able to kill elephants and skin them but there will be a stronger backlash for killing them. He also added that there will be no upgrades for elephants.
Players will also be able to cut the breaks of a vehicle, fit it with explosives and send it down the hill.

Ubisoft would give exclusive bonus to PlayStation owners (PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4), providing them with Keys in multiplayer mode, the company had said previously.
