While a series of information about Fallout 4 have gone viral in the last few days bringing cheer among fans awaiting the game, it has now been reported that the rumours on the teaser site TheSurvivor2299, were a hoax after all.
Adding to the disappointment, fans of the post-apocalyptic role-playing game (RPG) will probably not be able to get their hands on Fallout 4 in 2014. Bethesda, developer and publisher released a Christmas card on its Bethblog that missed out on including the most anticipated game for 2014.
"As tradition, we wanted to share this year's Bethesda Holiday card. With 2014 already on the brain, this year's card pays tribute to next year's lineup," Bethesda said in the blog.
The Christmas card by Bethesda includes some of the upcoming games, and sadly Fallout 4 does not find a mention. The card includes a robotic dog indicative of Wolfenstein: The New Order, a vault-looking box indicative of The Evil Within and a gold-plated Ouroboros referring to The Elder Scrolls Online, noted IGN. All the three games have been already announced to roll out in 2014.
Kotaku had recently got its hands on leaked casting documents that were codenamed 'Institute' for Fallout 4. The documents that were confirmed to be real had new characters like radio DJ, Travis Miles, a Buddy Holly and actor Vin Diesel cross named Sturges. Massachusetts is the setting for Fallout 4, it noted.
TheSurvivor2299, was able to fool a lot of people and many efforts were made to decode the supposed ciphered messages created by a Reddit user.
"If you don't hear it through an official channel like this, assume all rumors and speculation are false." It further noted, "[we] understand you're disappointed. if it's not something getting teased by our official channels, it's a good chance it's not us." When asked why the reply was late, it said, "We avoid responding to rumors and speculation, but did wanted to respond once people took it more seriously," Bethesda later wrote on Twitter.
