ExtraTorrent Release Group aka ETRG was recently shutdown, after its owner SaM confirmed that the ExtraTorrent site would be closed indefinitely. Without divulging the actual cause of ETRG's untimely demise, the site's owner simply said, "It's time we say goodbye."
The unexpected demise of ETRG had stirred up some anxiety and panic among other release groups, including ExtraTorrent's associate groups such as ettv and EtHD. However, it seems the panic stricken release groups have finally come out of the shock and started normal operations with creating as well as distributing pirated content on torrent sites.
The closure of ETRG has reportedly resulted in noticeable increase in user base for several other prominent torrent sites. Old timers and veterans of the torrent community would agree that ETRG's famed releases could never be paralleled by any other group in its prime days.
It appears fans of pirated content will continue exploring new avenues in the absence of primary release groups to quench their thirst for free entertainment. ExtraTorrent loyalists will continue to support the growth and sustenance of ettv and EtHD release groups as long as they exist.
ExtraTorrent owner SaM's last words seem truly encouraging for the fans, as he promised that Ettv and EtHD would remain operational as long as it received the donations to sustain the expenses and the fan support to keep it running.
It is too soon to predict the fallout of ExtraTorrent's untimely closure, but a large section of the torrents community will be keen to adopt alternative sources to continue serving content to millions of torrent users across the globe.
