South Korean record label SM Entertainment recently revealed that two of its popular artists, EXO member Lay and f(X) singer Krystal, will share screen space in the upcoming Chinese movie "Kite Flying".
The Kpop stars are expected to play lead role in the film that revolves around the lives of two dancers, but their casting details are under wraps.
Meanwhile, a representative from SM Entertainment revealed that the Korean entertainment agency is looking forward to the recent collaboration mainly because the celebrities are popular in both the countries.
"The two have decided to star in 'Kite Flying' and are currently in preparation. We have high expectations for them because they are highly esteemed celebrities in not only Korea but in China as well," Soompi quoted him as saying.
"Kite Flying" will be directed by "Plan Man" fame Seong Si Heup and the filming is expected to begin by the end of this year in Korea and China.
The movie is scheduled to hit big screens of China next year and is expected to pave the way for a new collaboration between the two countries. There is a buzz that the Chinese film industry is very keen to hire Korean cast and crew for their movies.
"You can tell China's keen interest in Korea's movie market by how NEW, one of the four major investment distributors in Korea, created "HUACE & NEW" with China's Huace Media. More actors, directors, and staff will be headed towards China because it has 10 times the number of theaters in Korea, up to the point where it is called Chollywood (China + Hollywood)," said an industry insider.
