SM Entertainment's EXO is undoubtedly one of the most popular bands in Korea and the band's members get several hundred followers each day on their Instagram account. However, when EXO member Chanyeol got a new Instagram follower, the band's official fan club, EXO-L, bombarded her with hate messages.
The "Call Me Baby" singer's new fan, @lilymaymac, an Instagram celebrity with 1.4 million followers, subscribed to his account after he started following her. This triggered a slew of angry messages from EXO-L.
The fan club engaged in what can be termed as cyber bullying. They targeted the social media celebrity for following anyone she likes, and even posted hate messages to her for not having privacy settings on her Instagram account. Some of the posts were personal and attacked her for her appearance.
While some EXO-L members lambasted her, others took a stand and urged fans not to hate her for following Chanyeol on Instagram.
This is not the first time that EXO's official fan club has targeted celebrities for following the band's members on social media. Unicorn's band member Gayoung received hate messages when she mentioned that she would like to appear with EXO's Sehun on the popular variety show, "We Got Married."
