Everton have been impressive in front of their home fans. They have not lost a single game in the Premier League at Goodison Park this season. Manchester United will hope to become the first team to defeat Everton at home as the two teams are set for a huge encounter on Sunday.
Both the teams have not been great, though, overall in the Premier League this season. They have lacked consistency. United and Everton lie at the seventh and the eighth position, respectively. The team which emerges victorious will climb up the table.
Manchester United have been one of the major disappointments this season as they were touted as the biggest favourite for the Premier League title before the season started. The appointment of Jose Mourinho and with the Portuguese signing some stars like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba had only strengthened their team. But the team, as a unit, have not been too impressive.
The Red Devils have lost five matches this season in their 13 Premier League matches so far, which is a poor start for a team like Manchester United. However, United come into this clash with a 4-1 win over West Ham, which must have given them huge confidence.
Finding the back of the net might not have been a major problem for Manchester United in other competitions, but they have not been impressive in the league. They have scored 18 goals in the Premier League, but manager Mourinho is also aware of it and wants his players to score against Everton.
"Sometimes when you are not playing well, you are hoping that something happens for you to score a goal – a set-piece, a corner, a mistake, individual action. But this is not the case as we are playing so well and we are producing so much that the normal thing is to score goals and win matches," Manchester United's official club website quoted Mourinho as saying.
"We are doing it in the cups: four against Feyenoord, four Fenerbahce, four West Ham. In the Premier League, apart from four against Leicester and three Swansea, the matches were all about zero and one."
Everton had a poor November, where they could not even win a single game, lost to Chelsea, Southampton and drew against Swansea City. Such kinds of results are not going to please their fans, who will hope to start December with a bang. Everton boss Ronald Koeman just wants his team to fight hard against United, and also in their future matches to move up the table.
"First of all you need to work hard and that's the best way to turn things around. We know we play on Sunday at home in a big game against a big club. Still, we are in a good position in the table and, if somebody had said to me at the beginning of the season that Everton at the beginning of December will be seventh and if they beat Manchester United we will go sixth, I would be happy," Koeman told Everton's official website.
With both teams looking for a Premier League win, this match could be an exciting one with some high-intensity football.
