Having watched Chelsea stroll to an eleventh consecutive win, Liverpool will know they need three points to stay within touching distance of the leaders. Those three points will not come easily, however, with Jurgen Klopp's side facing Everton in a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Everton got back to winning ways with an impressive outing against Arsenal, showing their mental strength to come from a goal down and beat Arsene Wenger's side. The Goodison Park faithful also seemed to find their voice in that match and that 12th man will, no doubt, be essential if Everton are to trip up their local rivals on Monday.

Ronald Koeman's side currently sit ninth with 23 points from 16 matches and while Liverpool are 11 points better off than their fellow Merseyside club, they are nine off leaders Chelsea, making this match all the more important for the Reds.

"These games between Everton and Liverpool are always about the derby mentality and the passion of the fans," Koeman, who tastes the Merseyside derby for the first time, said. "We know it's important to win the game to make the fans happy and proud of the team and it's really nice to be part of this derby.

"I have played in several derbies in Holland but maybe the most emotional one was between Barcelona and Real Madrid, so I understand. From what I have heard this derby is really, really one to look forward to."

Everton were quite physical in their last game, against Arsenal, and that strategy might pay dividends in the derby as well. Koeman will know he needs his team to throw Liverpool off their game, and going for a few early tackles and letting them know they are playing in a proper derby could be the way to go.

Liverpool will expect Everton to come hard at them and how they cope with that challenge will have a big bearing on the match.

"The good thing around the derby is that I don't have to say a lot because everybody knows what it is," Klopp said. "For me it's pretty special because it's my first time at Goodison Park.

"It will be a real battle, I would say. Two good teams against each other and my first time at Goodison Park, so I'm looking forward to it."

Liverpool have been quite fantastic going forward this season, but their defence has been a little suspect. With Simon Mignolet back in goal, Liverpool will know being tuned-in up front alone will not do – against this dangerous Everton side, with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley, they need to be zoned in for the entire 90 minutes in defence as well.

If they manage to do that, they will be confident of leaving Goodison with all three points.
