The defending champions Spain eased into the round of 16 of Euro 2016 after they handed a 3-0 drubbing to Turkey in a Group D match at the Allianz Riviera Stadium in Nice on Friday. Spain became the first team to score more than two goals in Euro 2016.
Turkey never looked like they were in the game right from the start of the match. Spain were in total control as they maintained ball possession throughout the game.
The first 30 minutes, Turkey somehow managed to hold off the La Roja forwards. But they were not strong enough to stop Alvaro Morata from scoring the opening goal in the 34th minute.
The cross was a luring one, and Morata, who was criticised after his performance in the first game, headed the ball into the back of the net with precision.
The second goal was scored by Nolito and it came within three minutes of the first goal. A mistake from a Turkish defender turned out to be costly as they conceded the second one.
Spain were leading 2-0 at halftime. The way La Roja played in the game, it always looked like they would score a third one. Precise passing from the Spaniards led to the third goal against Turkey.
Iniesta played a through ball to Jordi Alba and he had to beat the keeper to send the ball across to Morata. The latter scored yet again in the game making it 3-0.
Spain have now moved into the round of 16 with ease with a game in hand. They face Croatia in the final game of the Group D of Euro 2016.
