Despite a mild ankle injury, Eugenie Bouchard managed to win her first-round match at the French Open 2017 on Tuesday against Japan's Risa Ozaki, 2-6 6-3 6-2. Her second round match on Thursday, June 1, could very well see the end of her French Open campaign.
The 23-year-old Canadian star will take on Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova, seeded 17 in the clay tournament.
Bouchard and Sevastova have played twice in the past with their head to head record standing at 1-1. They have however never met on a clay court.
"I think she's a tricky player, slice, mixing up, slow balls," said Genie Bouchard of Sevastova. "An all-around player, I guess. I just have to be ready for everything.
"Play my aggressive game but also have patience, which I had a bit more today in the second and third," Bouchard added.
Sevastova comes on the back of a 6-2 6-4 victory against Germany's Annika Beck in the first round. She has never made it past the 2nd round in French Open, over the years, unlike, Bouchard, who made it to the Roland Garros semi-finals in 2014.
Bouchard vs Sevastova: Match schedule
- Date: June 1
- Time: Possibly 4 pm local time (7.30 pm IST, 10 am EST)
- Venue: Court 2, Stade Roland Garros
