Rajinikanth's Enthiran 2 aka 2.0 is showing signs of becoming yet another Baahubali in Indian cinema. The process of selling key rights of the multilingual movie kicked off long ago. In the latest development, the makers have reportedly sold the rights of its Hindi version.
The Mumbai media is abuzz with the reports of Enthiran 2 producer signing a deal with a leading distribution house for a record Rs. 80 crore. Reports claim the makers demanded Rs. 100 crore given the presence of Akshay Kumar, who has pan-India appeal.
However, after rounds of negotiations, the producer agreed to a Rs. 80-crore deal. Already, the makers have minted an astounding Rs. 110 crore from the sale of all language satellite rights, acquired by Zee TV.
It may be recalled that Kabali's Hindi theatrical rights were sold for just above Rs. 15 crore.
The current pre-release business stands at Rs. 190 crore. A rough estimation from the trade experts indicates that the pre-release could touch Rs. 500-crore mark. From the sale of South Indian theatrical rights, the makers are expecting the Rajinikanth starrer to rake in around Rs. 150-175 crore.
The overseas market (sans China market) is predicted to contribute big as the trade experts are predicting Enthiran 2 to do a pre-release business of above Rs. 125-150 crore. Merchandise and other deals would easily bring over Rs. 50 crore.
The Shankar-directorial is bankrolled by Lyca Productions at a budget of Rs. 400 crore. Amy Jackson plays the female lead in the movie, which will hit the screens on January 26 in multiple languages.
