Brendan Rodgers travels to his former club Swansea with his Liverpool team hoping to maintain their perfect record in the Barclays Premier League. The game begins in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Overview
It has been three wins out of three for this young Liverpool team. Daniel Sturridge has scored three goals and the games have all finished 1-0 to the reds. As their fans would proudly point out, Liverpool were top of the league going into the weekend's fixtures. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have temporarily displaced them after victories on Saturday. A win would propel Liverpool to the top of the league again and further underline their credentials as top four contenders. Liverpool players will be buoyed by their victory against archrivals Manchester United in their last league fixture.
Michael Laudrup's Swansea have had a poor start to the season. After their Carling Cup victory last season, fans would hope the team can push-on into the top seven of the league. In the first three games, the Swans have lost two and won one. However, the fixture list has not been kind to the Welsh side. So far they have played Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion. The only team they were expected to beat were Albion and they did so. A fixture against Liverpool is no easy feat. In their last fixture the Reds beat Swansea 5-0 at Anfield. The previous three games, since Swansea were promoted in 2011, were all draws.
Team News
Liverpool could be handing debuts to Mamadou Sakho, Victor Moses or Thiago Illori after their arrivals on deadline day at the end of the summer transfer window. The team are suffering a short-term injury crisis at the moment. Glen Johnson, Aly Cissokho, Daniel Sturridge, Joe Allen and Kolo Toure have all picked up injuries in the past few weeks. Toure and Allen should recover for the game but it unclear whether they will start. Due to Luis Suarez' suspension, Sturridge will almost certainly play even if not completely match fit.
Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will be facing his former club for the since time since leaving this summer. He has recovered from a knee injury in time for the game and will be eager to impress against his old team. Nathan Dyer is out for the game.
