England were expected to close out the ongoing series in Nottingham. They had headed into the third Test after having crushed India at Lord's by an innings and 159 runs and taken a 2-0 lead.

However, Virat Kohli's visiting side managed to not just keep themselves alive in the series but swung the momentum in their favour by thrashing England by 203 runs at the Trent Bridge.

Captain Kohli continued his blistering run in the ongoing series by scoring a second-innings ton. More importantly, he found support in Cheteshwar Puajra and Ajinkya Rahane as the two seniors seemingly overcame poor form.

Comeback man Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya picked up fifers as the Indian pace unit continued their impressive ways.

The momentum is certainly with the Indian team as the two teams prepare for the all-important encounter at the Ageas Bowl.

Kohli might not be tinkering with the playing XI for the first time since he took over as captain in 2014 as off-spinner R Ashwin, who suffered a back strain in Nottingham, is reportedly fit to play.

With a settled unit for the first time in the series, India will be coming hard at the Englishmen, who seem to have more problems than the visitors.

Openers Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings have been in woeful form and Johnny Bairstow is braving a finger injury to play as a batsman in Southampton.

However, England have added batting depth to their XI by including Moeen Ali, in place of young Ollie Pope, and impressive all-rounder Sam Curran after dropping Chis Woakes.

Pitch and conditions

England have named two spinners — Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali — in their XI but the decision seems to have been taken, keeping in mind the batting strength of the team.

The Ageas Bowl track had a decent covering of grass is expected to have more bounce than the previous venues of the series. Fast bowlers will also enjoy the forecasted cloud covering over the next few days.
