Engineers' Day is observed in India coinciding with the birth anniversary of great Indian engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (Vishweshwaraya), who was born on Sept. 15, 1860.
The theme of the 49th Engineers' Day is "Skill Development for Young Engineers to Reform the Core Sector: Vision 2025."

Visvesvaraya, the Diwan of Mysore, who was also a scholar and statesman, received the Indian Republic's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955.
The civil engineer, who graduated from the College of Engineering in Pune, played a pivotal role in protecting Visakhapatnam port from sea erosion. He was also the chief designer of flood protection system in Telangana and chief engineer of Mysore's Krishna Raja Sagara Dam.
