At least two militants have been confirmed dead in the currently ongoing encounter between security forces and militants in the Malawara village of Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, Greater Kashmir reported.
Rayees Mohammad Bhat, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the area, told the publication that the two militants were killed in a gunfight that flared in the Newa area of Pulwama. Security forces have reportedly cordoned off the area and a search operation is currently underway, Hindustan Times reported.
A police official quoted by the publication said "two cops have been injured in the firing."
According to India Today, the bodies of the two militants have been sent for post-mortem. Following the news of the encounter, locals living in the area took to the streets and began pelting stones on the police.
