"Empire" will entertain viewers with a surprising plot line and a new set of cast members when it returns to Fox with Season 2 from Wednesday, 23 September.
The new sequel is likely to begin with some hardships for hip hop mogul Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) and his middle son Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett). But, his ex-wife Cookie Lyon (Taraji P Henson) and elder son Andre Lyon (Trai Byers) seem to be happy in life.
Fans of the music industry drama series got a glimpse of second season through the new trailer. The 30-second-long clip shows the family patriarch behind bars wearing his prison uniform, and his ex-wife back in her position as the head of entertainment company.
The promotional video also focuses on a new concert, organised by Smollett's character, with the title "#FreeLucious". It hints that he will be trying his best to bring his father out of jail.
Meanwhile, the casting of Christopher Brian Bridges, who is popularly known as rapper Ludacris, is likely to set new challenges for the family patriarch. His character, correctional officer McKnight, is described as a hard-working "veteran of the Federal Bureau of Prisons", who does not have any sympathy towards celebrity inmates.
The character believes that every prisoner should be treated equally and popular public figures, especially Lucious, does not deserve any special consideration, according to Fox.
Other celebrities to appear in "Empire" Season 2 include Adam Rodriguez, Kelly Rowland, Alicia Keys, Chris Rock and Lenny Kravitz.
