An Elvis Presley jacket from the 1964 film Viva Las Vegas and more than 150 other items belonging to the late singer went up for auction on 13 August as part of Elvis Week events at his Graceland home in Memphis, Tennessee.
One highlight of the auction, which took place in the Graceland Archives Studio on the estate grounds, was Elvis jacket from the Viva Las Vegas dance scene with Ann-Margret, expected to go for an estimated $30,000-50,000 (£19,200-32,000) according to Graceland Auctions. It ended up being passed on.
Other items on the block include Elvis personal Walther PPK handgun, engraved with the words Elvis and TCB. Auctioneers expected that to bring in between $100,000-125,000, but went for $62,500.
Also up for bids was a TCB diamond and gold necklace given to Elvis by fellow Las Vegas entertainer Sammy Davis Jr, which brought in $32,000, and a gold owl-shaped ring Elvis presented to a fan onstage that went for $32,500.
All the auction items were authenticated, and were from third-party collectors and not from Graceland archives, the auctioneers said. Fans from around the world gather annually to celebrate the life of Presley, who died 16 August 1977, in the bathroom inside his Graceland Mansion in Memphis at age 42.
