Portia de Rossi allegedly took to drinking heavily, after she learned that her wife, Ellen DeGeneres, was cheating on her with a mutual friend, a new report claims.
The cheating is said to have happened sometime before de Rossi checked into a rehab in May, and since then a number of reports have come out stating that the celebrity couple is heading for divorce.
"[Portia thinks Ellen] had an affair with one of their mutual friends right before Portia's rehab stint in May," a source told In Touch, and added this "led to some of their ugliest blowups," reported Inquisitr.
Reportedly, the couple often got into spats over DeGeneres' "controlling" ways, and things turned ugly when de Rossi attempted to tape her spouse in action, and expose the talk show host's true colors.
When DeGeneres found out about it, she smashed de Rossi's phone and even went through her wife's emails to make sure that she hadn't sent the video to anyone, noted Celeb Dirty Laundry.
DeGeneres' control freak nature coupled with her alleged infidelity, is said to be the reasons that forced de Rossi to hit the bottle hard.
Meanwhile, the InTouch source added that the celebrity couple has since started therapy sessions to work on their marriage. However, it might take a while for de Rossi to trust the DeGeneres again.
"It's going to take a lot for Portia to trust Ellen again. They kept up with the therapy after Portia got out of rehab, but they still have a long way to go," the source said.
As part of their attempts to make their marriage work, DeGeneres has even decided to quit alcohol, so that de Rossi wouldn't be tempted to drink again.
"Ellen has always been a big drinker—she loves her wine," a source told OK! magazine. "But she's realized that her behavior has only enabled Portia to drink as well, and she feels partially responsible for Portia's rehab stint.
"Ellen loves Portia more than anything in the world and wants to make sure she's healthy, emotionally and physically. She's realized that drinking in front of Portia is just selfish," the source said, adding that "Ellen is just grateful that her wife is healthy again. She's ready to enjoy every minute that she has with Portia."
The couple will be celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary on Aug. 16.
