An elderly couple died in a housing society in Gujarat's Rajkot district on Monday after the woman, who weighed 128 kg, slipped and fell on her husband. The deceased have been identified as Natvarlal (75) and Manjula Vithlani (68).
The Rajkot police told International Business Times, India, the incident occurred on Monday, July 3. The location was the Ramdam housing society located on Kalawad Road in Sardarnagar.
The police told IBTimes India the incident took place when Manjula was hurrying up the stairs of the house in a state of panic after she was informed that her son Ashish had developed a breathing problem. She slipped and fell on her husband Natvarlal, who was following her up. Both sustained severe injuries, and died of cerebral haemorrhaging.
The police told IBTimes India that while Manjula died on the spot, Natvarlal was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
