Sia, the "Chandelier" hitmaker, took to Twitter to clear the air on her latest video "Elastic Heart," which has been slammed by many as "paedophilia."
Sia released "Elastic Heart" on Wednesday and the video already has registered 3 million views. The content, however, wasn't taken in the right sense by a lot of people.
'Elastic Heart" features a shirtless, grubby Shia LaBeouf and the pre-teen "Dance moms" star Maddie Ziegler, who stunned the world with her performance in the "Chandelier" music video, engaging in an intense dance off in a huge cage.
The idea of a fully grown man performing a contemporary dance form with a 12-year-old child triggered off controversy, with many expressing their disgust and outrage at the concept of the video. Elle Magazine tweeted that the video was "creepy" while the Independent called it "bizarre."
Viewers also felt that the video did promote some kind of child perversion with some suggesting that it has overtones of incest.
Considering all the negative press surrounding the video, Sia took to Twitter to clear the air on the issue to explain that the intention of the video was definitely not "paedophilia."
"I anticipated some 'pedophelia!!!' Cries for this video. All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play," she wrote.
"These two warring 'sia' self states," she explained of the video.
Sia also apologized about the misinterpretation.
"I apologize to those who feel triggered by #ElasticHeart My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody."
But not everybody thinks the song promotes paedophilia. Some have interpreted the video as a struggle between a mentally ill father and his love for his daughter.
"Elastic Heart" is Sia's latest single from her sixth studio album "1000 Forms of Fear." The song featured in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and also played on Weeknd & Diplo.
