The makers of the Malayalam film "Drishyam" has run into troubled waters. There are rumours that the film "Drishyam" is based on the Japanese Novel "The Devotion of suspect X" written by Keigo Higashino and Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor has sent a legal notice to the makers of "Drishyam" claiming that she owns the copyright of making the film based on the novel. This has led to a series of controversies regarding the film. Meanwhile, Jeethu Joseph, the director of "Drishyam" have said the acquisitions made by Ekta are false.
"I have not yet received any legal notice. Moreover, all these rumours are baseless. All the said claims are just aimed to halt the planned production of "Drishyam" in Hindi," said Jeethu to Asianet news.
Reports suggest that Ekta's Balaji Films had planned to make a film based on the novel starring Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Parambratha Chatterjee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, directed by "Kahaani" fame Sujoy Ghosh.
"The storyline of the 'Drishyam' and the novel is said to be the same and Ekta's upcoming film is also along the lines of the novel. So the remake of 'Drishyam' in Bollywood is not acceptable to Ekta Kapoor," reported Asianet.
"Drishyam" starring Mohanlal in the lead became the highest grossing film ever in Malayalam film history. The film, which was released in 2013 was well received by the audience and critics. The film earned more than ₹35 crore within 50 days of its release and became the second film to run for more than 100 days in the UAE after Titanic.

"Drushyam" had Venkatesh and Meena in the lead roles and was directed by actress turned director Sripriya.
Both the films were well received by the audience and were box office hits. The Tamil version of the film starring Kamal Haasan is expected to begin its shooting by mid August and will be directed by Jeethu.
