Television czarina Ekta Kapoor, whose daily soaps dominate all major TV channels in India, is set to remake fantasy television drama titled "Chandrakanta" that is based on the novel by the same name.
The drama was originally shown on Doordarshan between 1994 and 1996. Later, the show had a rerun on Sony TV.
"Chandrakanta" was partly based on Devaki Nandan Khatri's novel and revolved around two young lovers from two rival kingdoms.
The popular drama had Shikha Swaroop as Princess Chandrakanta and Shahbaz Khan as Prince Virendra Singh. However, the cast of the remake are yet to be finalised.
"The show will be the remake of the popular Doordarshan television series of mid 90', which was also a television adaptation of the novel. Though the project is at nascent stage and none of the cast has yet been finalized, the creatives are working on the project and the actors," a source told Telly Chakkar.
Ekta will reportedly tie up with Sony TV that airs her show "Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyar". If it doesn't work out, the managing director of Balaji Telefilms will look at approaching Star Plus or Zee TV.
As and when the new version of "Chandrakanta" hits small screens, it would be a delight for viewers to watch their favourite show once again.
